The Snowbiker

Tonight is the last shift before Christmas, and I needed to get into town to pick up something for our 'Secret Santa' thing. Going in the car would have been impossible, as for the rest of this week it will be basically gridlocked. The temperature was around zero and the roads were dry, so I opted for the Yamaha. As I left the house it started snowing. I was only out about 15 minutes (I can shop very positively when I need to), but in that time a lot of snow fell and continued to fall as I was making my way home.

Anna, who is a little nervous about these things, was watching for my return, and when she saw me she grabbed her camera. The dog seemed quite pleased to see me too.

Abominable or just abdominal? You decide.

  1. Looks like you missed a lot of the snow there fella. About 6" here on top of packed ice. Could do with that there Landrover behind you ... or is that your 'car'? :)

  2. We haven't had much snow lately, that's true. The fact that it is lying on the ground is unusual for Pembrokeshire - usually we get a snow shower and it's gone in an hour. There has been snow on the ground for longer than I can remember in 20 years here.

The Landie is 'resting'. It's been on SORN for the last two years until I get round to fixing it. I wished I'd had the use of it the last few weeks!

  6. @ Joe - that's some bike. The real ice racers can carry more lean angle than any other racing bike, because of the spiked tyres. Just don't fall off.

@SH - yup, it sits there being reproachful. (Note to self - I *must* get this sorted out in the New Year.)

  7. Somebody ought to be running a Landie In My Garden club. Members could meet up and swap pictures but if you arrive in a fixed vehicle, that's it, you're out.

  8. Do you know, that's a very good idea. Hours of harmless amusement for the whole family. Well, the ones with willies, anyway.

  9. Am I weird for wanting one of those ice racers in road trim? I wouldn't use it much, just for the occasional act of urban shock and awe.

Gotta love that winter gear...I looked much like that t'other day (size, shape and light dusting of snow) and I'm only 9 stone, wringing wet.

  10. What I didn't say is that what appears to be a textile suit is in fact a skin-tight Lycra number which I use on weekends. That is my shape.

  11. I can once remember getting back from the Pub and seeing a layer of ice shatter from my Belstaff jacket as I got off the bike....

The wing mirror stalks and handle bars were twice as wide in one direction as the other!
