The Dundee United and Scotland footballer David Goodwillie has been charged with raping a woman at a new year house party in West Lothian.
Goodie is a fantastic player but he's had his problems off the field. Numerous charges for assault and drunkeness in the past. He was being lined up for a £2m move to Glasgow Rangers and there has been a lot of haggling over the transfer fee. Typical of Scottish football that the blogs in Scotland are now full of stories of a 'Masonic' fit up. Rangers agents setting him up so that they could get a lower price for a 'tainted' player.
I don't follow football, so the name was new to me. If that's what gets football fans in a tizzy, then I think I will stay away.Masonic fit up, or a young lad with an over-inflated sense of his own worth? Time for Occam's Razor.
" Masonic fit up, or a young lad with an over-inflated sense of his own worth?"Definitely the latter.. over inflated ego and overpaid !The off field shenanigans are taken equally as seriously as the actual football in Scotland. The pre match chat, the pub, the post match chat then the newspapers and blogs. Good fun if you're into that sort of thing. I quite enjoy it ;)
I briefly followed Leeds Utd in the 1960s (the Don Revie era) and I don't think my interest could ever be revived after that. The fans weren't all that nice to know in those days either :)
